Martin Tartre

Martin focuses his practice on representing employees in all manner of employee rights litigation, including whistleblower retaliation, employment discrimination (race, sex, age, disability, religion), sexual harassment, medical leave violations, and failure to accommodate. Before joining Employee Rights Group, Martin practiced as a general practitioner in rural Maine, where he offered legal services to small businesses and represented local residents that could not afford an attorney.

After graduating cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law, Martin worked as an associate attorney for a law firm, representing clients in employment discrimination cases, sexual harassment, professional liability, personal injury, and civil rights litigation.

In March 2024, Martin and Chad Hansen represented a Market Basket employee who alleged that he had been passed over for a promotion because of his age. After a four-day jury trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire, a jury awarded the employee more than $360,000 for Market Basket's failure to promote him because of his age. The jury found that Market Basket willfully violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the New Hampshire Law Against Discrimination.

Martin is a member of the Maine Employment Lawyers Association and National Employment Lawyers Association. His legal writing has been published in a specialized national law review journal.

Martin is a co-chair of the Maine Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section.
